How to Fall in Love with Running

02/15/2017

I am about to let you in on the secret to falling in love with running.

Go run. Rest. Repeat.

Yes, it really is that simple!  What’s not so simple is the fact that you have to commit to the process – and this is the part that takes time.  Our society is so hell-bent on instant gratification: we want EVERYTHING and we want it NOW.  We don’t want to wait.  I’ve said this before but it bears repeating:

NO ONE THAT I KNOW OF, MYSELF INCLUDED, EVER PUT ON THEIR RUNNING SHOES AND WENT RUNNING FOR THE FIRST TIME AND LOVED IT.

When you first start to run – which is scary to do in and of itself – it HURTS.  Unless of course you are an endurance athlete who is used to that sort of movement!  99% of us DO NOT fall into this category, and so – it hurts that first time (or two).  The good news is, you just have to make it through the first week and then things will start to feel better.

How long does it take to fall in love with running?  This varies from person to person.  For me, it took 8 months.  8 months of making myself do it.  I was a brand-new mom, overweight, and in desperate need of exercise – I battled myself every day to run, but I did it.  Here I am, 13 years later, still running!  And loving it (well, most of the time).

Find your motivation!  Don’t be afraid to try.   You can download FREE training plans for the 5k and Half Marathon at www.chescohalf.com/training.  Team Badass is also here to help – search for our closed group on Facebook to join a crazy fun forum of runners who love to answer questions, meet up for a run, and try crazy new events!  Training for CCH “officially” begins 12 weeks prior to 5/21/17.  This puts our first long run at Sunday, March 5th!  Long runs with our training crew are free and open to EVERYONE of ALL PACES!  Location and time will be posted on our Facebook page (The Chester County Half Marathon/Memorial 5k) and updated on the training page on our website.  Please come out and run with us!

See you on the road.  Happy running!
